Pocket Vinyl to Play at Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes in December

The Desultory Theatre Club is pleased to announce (on a much cooler evening!) the return of one of our favorite acts in CT…

Pocket Vinyl!!

They are so ready to return to our fun venue at Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes! This time with special opening artist: Rachel Elizabeth Pass!

Pocket Vinyl consists of a one-man band and on-stage artist, performing for your pleasure. Check them out at The Desultory Theatre Club's show at Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes in Oakville on December 4, 2015!

What is Pocket Vinyl you may ask?

They are made up of the lovely Eric Stevenson on piano, vocals, and harmonica, and the talented Elizabeth Jancewicz–on-stage artist and inspiration for lots of things.

Eric rocks out and plays the piano while Elizabeth starts with a blank canvas and paints her way through the night. At the end of the show, the paintings are then sold to the highest bidder.

They’re married. They’re from New London, CT. Their 4th album, Tin, was just released this Fall! They invented the world’s first “MP” EP (short for “mini play”). They’re full time musicians working on a DIY level.

They sleep in their car sometimes and love it. Eric likes board games. Elizabeth loves animals. They are super nice and extremely talented. And they’re trying very hard to be your favorite band. Check them out!

Rachel is a student at Canton Middle School, where her musical talents have blossomed. She is a lover of Musical theatre, a member of the Canton Middle School Chamber Singers and has participated in the elite Northern Regional choral performances.  In her spare time, she writes her own songs, plays the alto sax, and has recently learned how to play the Ukulele. She is a creative joy!

As if that wasn’t enough, the event will be housed at the super cool Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes–winner of Cupcakes Wars on the Food Network! Putting out some pretty fantastic treats to blow your minds and please your tummies! Cupcakes! Whoopie Pies! And you may even be lucky enough to grab an original Ponut, the amazing creation that is part pie and part donut!! Check out their website!

The Park & Pocket Vinyl!!

PocketVinyl4Poster

What a line-up for our 50th show!!!

It’s going to be a great night of music and entertainment!

The Park is a Connecticut duo composed of Parker Hu and Mik Walker. The Park began as Parker’s solo project, starting with her first self-released album in 2004. Since then, she has continued to write original music, performing across the New England area and releasing three more albums. Her most recent studio album, Time and Place, has been described as “…buoyant, haunting and poignant, richly textured and varied.” The Park’s music style is characterized by unique guitar playing, melodic harmonies, and thought-provoking lyrics. Their music has been featured in CT Indie magazine, Local Band Review, Chip’s Unnamed Local Band Show and in-studio on WPKN.

Joined by Mik Walker in 2012, Mik brings to The Park an up-front and lyrical bass, occasional guitar and improvisational melodies. Mik plays a variety of instruments and has many years of diverse playing experience in both the UK and the US. He remains active with a constantly evolving number of eclectic musical projects in Connecticut and via the web. Beyond her solo work, Parker is also involved in projects across multiple genres, including dark indie folk, Brazilian samba, and electronic dance music.

Latest album “Time and Place” available at: http://musicthepark.bandcamp.com/

Pocket Vinyl is a melodic mesh between a piano and a painting.

A unique show which includes Eric, a man who hits, beats, and slams a piano with his blistered fingers while his wife, Elizabeth creates a brand new painting each night. Every show is different, and each show memorable to those who attend. At the end of the evening, they even auction of the piece that was created during the show!

Hailing from New London, CT, they’ve played over 150 shows is nearly every state east of the Mississippi River, and even quite a few beyond that. Their t-shirts and CD packaging are all hand-made. They’ve created a handful of stop animation music videos, On-the-road documentaries, full length albums, EPs, and singles. They book, manage, and create everything themselves, and are incredibly proud of that fact.

Whether they’re playing for 2 or 2000 people, they always bring their intensity and art 100%.
