In support of their debut album release, the Dallas based, multi-instrumentalist duo The Gibbonses, are embarking on a month long tour up the East Coast and across the mid-west. This is the band’s only public appearance in CT, so this is one show you’re not going to want to miss!

With a unique blend of Southern Soul, Americana, and Rhythm & Blues, Torrington native Brandon Gibbons (Charity) and his wife Jackie have been capturing the attention of music lovers across the Southwest. The band has shared the stage with The Black Lillies, Kimberly Dunn, Dalton Domino, Sam Riggs, and Prophets and Outlaws to name a few. In a recent album spotlight, Texas Music Picker’s had this to say about their record, Among The Rubble; “This captivating record offers a tale of tragedy and finding resolve, leaving the listener engaged throughout the journey in between! Every song has something to say and we’re impressed by the maturity in this talented band’s debut record!”

Local legends of folk and bluegrass, Switch Factory, will start the show off. These guys are incredible! John Fitts, a writer for the Litchfield County Times, writes, “With a fun live show, impeccable chops and tight harmonies, the members of Switch Factory are in a great place musically.”

Along with this fantastic musical line up you will enjoy the beauty that is South Farms in Morris, CT. And AmandaBakes will be there with some tasty dessert treats!

Pocket Vinyl to Play at Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes in December

The Desultory Theatre Club is pleased to announce (on a much cooler evening!) the return of one of our favorite acts in CT…

Pocket Vinyl!!

They are so ready to return to our fun venue at Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes! This time with special opening artist: Rachel Elizabeth Pass!

Pocket Vinyl consists of a one-man band and on-stage artist, performing for your pleasure. Check them out at The Desultory Theatre Club's show at Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes in Oakville on December 4, 2015!

What is Pocket Vinyl you may ask?

They are made up of the lovely Eric Stevenson on piano, vocals, and harmonica, and the talented Elizabeth Jancewicz–on-stage artist and inspiration for lots of things.

Eric rocks out and plays the piano while Elizabeth starts with a blank canvas and paints her way through the night. At the end of the show, the paintings are then sold to the highest bidder.

They’re married. They’re from New London, CT. Their 4th album, Tin, was just released this Fall! They invented the world’s first “MP” EP (short for “mini play”). They’re full time musicians working on a DIY level.

They sleep in their car sometimes and love it. Eric likes board games. Elizabeth loves animals. They are super nice and extremely talented. And they’re trying very hard to be your favorite band. Check them out!

And joining them is another unique CT artist, Rachel Elizabeth Pass!

Rachel is a student at Canton Middle School, where her musical talents have blossomed. She is a lover of Musical theatre, a member of the Canton Middle School Chamber Singers and has participated in the elite Northern Regional choral performances.  In her spare time, she writes her own songs, plays the alto sax, and has recently learned how to play the Ukulele. She is a creative joy!

As if that wasn’t enough, the event will be housed at the super cool Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes–winner of Cupcakes Wars on the Food Network! Putting out some pretty fantastic treats to blow your minds and please your tummies! Cupcakes! Whoopie Pies! And you may even be lucky enough to grab an original Ponut, the amazing creation that is part pie and part donut!! Check out their website!

The Hardcore Halloweenie Burlesque & Variety Show will offer both tricks and treats for ghosts and ghouls on October 24th!

Some of the best in burlesque are prepared to bewitch: the award-winning Dot Mitzvah (Conn.) is the juiciest Jewess this side of the Wailing Wall; Vanil LaFrappe (Conn.) will shake and stir; Niki Tiki (N.J.) astounds as the Jessica Rabbit of burlesque; and Vivienne LaFlamme (Conn.) sets hearts on fire.

A wide array of talent will further enrapture: mind-bending illusions from Jaysin Katsikis; shadow puppets from Anatar Marmol-Gagné; and sideshow stunts from Circus Delecti members Uber Dami, Jackalope, Earl of Grey and Blackrock. Local rock/R&B band The Strangers, featuring Connecticut music mainstays Doron Flake and Spencer Luckey, will lend their talents for bone-rattling music.

At 7 p.m., local food trucks Spuds Your Way and The Green Grunion will offer themselves for the ravenous hordes. The doors open at 7:30 p.m. to Hardcore Sweet’s retail shop and lounge, featuring cupcakes so award-winningly, terrifyingly good that Rob Zombie couldn’t resist. Firefly Hollow Brewing Co. of Bristol will offer samples of its craft beers that can quench any thirst at Hardcore Sweet’s responsibly BYOB establishment.

Local filmmakers Elmwood Productions, makers of the all-puppet slasher movie Head currently touring film festivals across the country, and Justin Talarski, an up-and-comer in the indie horror scene with the film Deimosimine (Legless Corpse Productions), also will be on hand to slay before the performers kill.

Are you ready for a scary good time? An offbeat Halloween trick AND treat? The Hardcore Halloweenie Burlesque & Variety Show will be your graveyard smash!

Coming Up: Mission Zero’s CD Release Party

The Desultory Theatre Club presents…

Mission Zero’s CD Release Party!!

Mission Zero CD release party at Cafe Nine, New Haven, on Saturday, May 2, 2015 Join us for an evening you won’t soon forget as we team up with 3 great bands, including New Haven’s very own Mission Zero, to invade “The musician’s living room”, Cafe 9, for their newest CD release! Starring:

Boy Girl Party (NYC)

Boy Girl Party has a little chip on their shoulder, but a few minutes on the dance floor shakes it off. Sincerely nerdy and unabashedly silly, they are on a constant hunt for new band friends and dance partners with a decent sense of time and a better sense of humor. http://boygirlparty.bandcamp.com/album/dear-dear

Teen Girl Scientist Monthly (NYC)

Teen Girl Scientist Monthly is a 6-piece rock group from Brooklyn. They sound like Ra Ra Riot and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah making out in the bathroom. http://teengirlscimo.bandcamp.com/album/modern-dances

And featuring Mission Zero!

New Haven’s very own Mission Zero has been compared to duos “Phantogram” and “The Eurythmics”, as they combine “live and digital” to create music that embodies the power and freedom they feel by going it (mostly) alone and keeping total creative control of their art. They are pumped and so ready to release this new album for all of you to enjoy! http://www.mission0.net/

Tickets are $7 and it’s 21+, Ladies and Gents!

Saturday, May 2, 2015 – Show starts 9:30/10(ish) PM!

Be prepared to celebrate and have a good time!
