Pocket Vinyl at Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes
The Desultory Theatre Club is pleased to announce the return of one of our favorite acts in CT…
POCKET VINYL!
At one of our favorite new venues…
HARDCORE SWEET CUPCAKES!
What is Pocket Vinyl? you may ask:
This dynamic duo is made up by the lovely Eric Stevenson on piano, vocals, and harmonica, and the talented Elizabeth Jancewicz, on-stage artist and inspiration for lots of things.
Eric rocks out and plays the piano while Elizabeth starts with a blank canvas and paints on stage. At the end of the show, the painting is then sold to the highest bidder.
They’re married. They’re from New London, CT. They’ve released 3 albums, the most recent of which was “Death Anxiety” in 2013. Their 4th is coming in Fall 2015. They invented the world’s first “MP” EP (short for “mini play”). They’re full time musicians working on a DIY level.
They sleep in their car sometimes and love it. Eric likes board games. Elizabeth loves animals. They are super nice and extremely talented. And they’re trying very hard to be your favorite band. Check them out!
As if that wasn’t enough, the event will be housed at the super cool Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes, winner of Cupcakes Wars on the Food Network! They excel at putting out some pretty fantastic treats that will blow your minds and tickle your tummies! Cupcakes! Whoopie Pies! And you may even be lucky enough to grab an original Ponut, the amazing creation that is part pie and part donut!! Check out their website!

Coming Up: Mission Zero’s CD Release Party
The Desultory Theatre Club presents…
Mission Zero’s CD Release Party!!
Join us for an evening you won’t soon forget as we team up with 3 great bands, including New Haven’s very own Mission Zero, to invade “The musician’s living room”, Cafe 9, for their newest CD release! Starring:
Boy Girl Party (NYC)
Boy Girl Party has a little chip on their shoulder, but a few minutes on the dance floor shakes it off. Sincerely nerdy and unabashedly silly, they are on a constant hunt for new band friends and dance partners with a decent sense of time and a better sense of humor. http://boygirlparty.bandcamp.com/album/dear-dear
Teen Girl Scientist Monthly (NYC)
Teen Girl Scientist Monthly is a 6-piece rock group from Brooklyn. They sound like Ra Ra Riot and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah making out in the bathroom. http://teengirlscimo.bandcamp.com/album/modern-dances
And featuring Mission Zero!
New Haven’s very own Mission Zero has been compared to duos “Phantogram” and “The Eurythmics”, as they combine “live and digital” to create music that embodies the power and freedom they feel by going it (mostly) alone and keeping total creative control of their art. They are pumped and so ready to release this new album for all of you to enjoy! http://www.mission0.net/
Tickets are $7 and it’s 21+, Ladies and Gents!
Saturday, May 2, 2015 – Show starts 9:30/10(ish) PM!
Be prepared to celebrate and have a good time!
Special thanks to Cafe 9! Check them out!
There’s always some kind of great live music going on there!
Upcoming Events: HEAD premiere and SWAN Day 2015
March is a busy month with two fabulous events featuring The Desultory Theatre Club’s own, Keith Paul, that you’ll want to catch!
is a one of a kind film starring an all puppet cast in a throwback to the slasher films of the 1970’s and 1980’s. A group of twenty-somethings go for a nice fall weekend camping trip and end up in the middle of a nightmare they may never escape from…
Elmwood Productions invites you to join them March 28th and 29th at Paris In Plantsville Gallery and Studio for the premiere screenings of HEAD.
Following the film, the film makers, along with cast members, will be on hand for a Q&A session for anyone interested.
Tickets are on sale now! $8.00 – 3/28 at 8PM & 3/29 at 7PM
Or at the gallery during normal operating hours.
SEATS ARE LIMITED!
Tickets at the door on the nights of the screenings are $10.00! So get ’em before and save some money!
HEAD is Rated R for: gore, horror, four letter words, and anything else you’d expect in a horror movie starring puppets, so we advise leaving the kids at home!
Stay up to date on The HEAD Production Blog.

Mission 0 and Forget, Forget
The Desultory Theatre Club and Snapper Magee’s present…
Our favorite sexy rockers MISSION ZERO (New Haven) and the really cool music of FORGET, FORGET (Portland, ME)!!
MISSION ZERO plays smart, sexy trip-hop indie-pop.
Growing up playing a range of musical instruments together, siblings Chenot and David crafted and honed their ability to communicate telepathically as performers. After touring the world separately and together in various bands, they decided to join forces as Mission Zero. Intentionally forgoing traditional pop instrumentation, the duo focuses on their strong suits – powerful, sultry vocals and blistering, dynamic percussion – supported live by a unique body of synthesized sounds (lovingly referred to by the band as The Robots).
Their live show runs the musical gamut, including explosive stomping synth-pop that provokes an irresistible need to dance.
A commitment to an eco-chic lifestyle has led to an album and several singles recorded in a studio powered by solar energy, as well as a compressed stage set-up, designed and built (by drummer David) using recycled and reclaimed steel.
Mission Zero’s latest single, “12345678!” (“A perfect pop song” says Groove Magazine) was released alongside an animated video and interactive video game.
FORGET, FORGET‘s debut album, “We Are All,” is driven by songwriter Tyler DeVos’s work with adults living with mental illness. The lyrical content is a collage of quotes and excerpts uttered by people with psychosis who live in several of the group homes where he works. “DeVos puts those words – cloaked in metaphor and wild imagery, and yet strangely universal – to a sweeping soundtrack that heightens the otherworldly nature of the words,” writes Emily Burnham of the Bangor Daily News.
Their sound is lush, expansive, and multi-layered, yet it is crafted to be fundamentally accessible. It has been labeled as indie-rock and chamber-pop among other things. Guitar, synth, and string parts are layered atop a foundation of tight, driving drums and bass. Three- and four-part vocal harmonies fill out the arrangements lushly and beautifully. DeVos is the primary lead vocalist, with multi-instrumentalist Patia Maule contributing lead vocals on several songs.
Seeing Forget, Forget perform live is an unforgettable experience. The music is delivered compellingly and passionately. Forget, Forget has won over crowds at numerous venues in Northern New England, including Port City Music Hall in Portland, ME, The Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge, MA, Rockwood Music Hall in New York City, and the Penobscot Theater in Bangor, ME.
“We Are All” is dedicated to people who live with mental illness.
Party starts at 9pm – Show begins at 10pm!
21 and Over only.
Join us for August Company! Rick Murnane and The Dress-Ups!
The Desultory Theatre Club and Five Points Gallery present and evening of great modern art and music!!
Rick Murnane (Northampton, MA) : Noted for smart songwriting, articulate guitar playing, and for having a perfect pop-rock voice, New England native Rick Murnane’s 2012 album Wednesday Child was described in Performer Magazine as “beautiful, psychedelic material suitable for any day of the week.” He’s currently working on a new album, slated for release later this year.
The Dress-Ups (Hartford, CT) : A little sweet. A little bitter. Known for unexpected harmonies and a sense of tasteful mischief, The Dress-Ups deliver bright and melancholy songs with a strong retro feel. Devoid of cynicism and frequently funny, Dress-Ups performances resonate with the Eternal Broken heart and blossom into expressions of pure joy. Shameless pop. Shameless.
We are very excited about our August artists and the exciting new venue that is helping us out while we re-establish our gypsy roots!
Arrive early to meet cool strangers and look at some amazing artwork! Doors open at 7:30 – Show begins at 8pm!
Five Points Gallery – 33 Main Street – Torrington, CT
